It's been a while since I posted anything but I just wanted to let
everyone know that I am still around. If you had a question posted in
the forum I have responded to all of them.
I am almost moved into my house and as soon as the rest of my items
arrive from the shipping company I can try to resume my normal life.
Thanks...

Thanks to all those that have given Blogg-X a shot and left some
feedback. I apoligize for my offline status for the last few days. I am
currently in phase 2 of my move back to the US and haven't had any net
access. Now I am currently using dial-up which is pretty painful after
getting used to DSL. Hopefully in the next few weeks I will get my life
back to normal and fix a few things and start working on the other
features that have been requested.
For those that are having problems with accounts on the site I will look
into this. It's most likely caused by the convergence of the Joomla! and
SMF board login. I will have to track the problem down. Thanks for being
patient.
Also for those of you now using Blogg-X please let me know and I will
again link to your site on the frontpage.
Thanks...

After 1000 downloads of the previous versions of Blogg-X I am happy to
announce the latest beta version. This version has changed alot, mainly
the removal of the JDBC requirement that was restricting many people
from trying out the program.
This version is based on XML-RPC and has greatly simplified the settings
required for it to work.
Additional features have also been added, for example the option to edit
and delete posted content. For all the new features, screenshots, and
other information check out the link below.

Blogg-X version .80 Beta has been released to a few private testers. As
soon as I have gotten some initial feedback in and no major problems I
will be putting out the public beta. A major PHP code problem was
identified by my friend Rob at combateffective.us.
Hopefully there are no other problems as major as that. Keep watching
here for additional information.
Thanks...

Progress is still slowly being made with the next version of Blogg-X.
I'm sorry it's been slow but I have been on vacation and away from the
computer alot. Anyway here is some information on the latest progress.
The ability to remove and edit previous posts has been added. Now you
can correct those spelling errors a little easier. I can also confirm
that this version is still compatible with Mambo and of course is
compatible with Joomla! 1.0.3. I have a few minor annoyances that I am
still working out, but I have decided to initiate a feature freeze in
order to get the code cleaned up and the last few problems ironed out so
everyone can get their hands on it a little sooner.
Hopefully soon I will have the download available.
Thanks...

Just a quick update on how things are going. I have Blogg-X working
entirely with XML-RPC and am now at the point where I am adding in
features requested by users. Here are the features currently completed:
1. Option of frontpage posting
2. Option of posting in plain text
3. Test connection button tests for valid connection and username and
password.
4. Setup now only requires publisher/admin username and password and the
website url.
To those unfamiliar with XML-RPC let me try to explain it. First its a
web services programming scheme designed for client server application
development. With Blogg-X there is now a mambot that is loaded via
Joomla! that acts as the server portion and does most of the database
updates just as Joomla! itself does. The client portion of Blogg-X is
the java application that runs from the desktop and communicates with
the server.
What does this mean for users? The greatest advantage is all sites
running Joomla! can now use Blogg-X. The second is the simplified setup
from the previous version of Blogg-X. Now all that is needed is the
username and password of an admin or publisher on the site. Third
advantage is that the passwords are sent from the client to server via
an MD5 hash, meaning the password is not sent in clear text. This just
adds a bit of security. Also I have designed the server to check the
sent password from the client against the password stored in the Joomla!
database and only allow updates if they match. This should make things a
little more secure as well.
I will post another update when I have progressed a little further. I am
also going to be sending out my current test version to a couple private
beta testers to get some initial feedback.
Thanks...

Conversion almost complete... |

The website conversion to Joomla! has almost been completed. I had some
problems converting the forum but hopefully I have gotten it all
straightened out. If you are a member and are having problems logging in
please let me know. You may also try the "forgotten password" link to
see if that fixes your problem.
I have also opened back up the guest comment access but with the
addition of the security image. Hopefully this will stop the automatic
spamming stuff.
If you find anything else that doesn't work in the next few days please
let me know.
Thanks...

I am converting the site over from Mambo to Joomla! in the next few days
so the site my be unavailable at times. I am going to do my best to
preserve the forum data and all member data but am not making any
promises.
All the downloads will still be available at the Joomla! developer site.
Thanks...
