Protocol used / Blogger API
« on: December 02, 2005, 12:52:02 AM »

Chris,

Out of curiosity: does your mambot/app use the 'Blogger' API convention and it's XML-RPC protocol?

The reason I'm asking is because there are already quite some apps out there supporting multiple protocols (of which the Blogger one is most widely used) for remote blogging.

Now, I like your app a lot, I really do! But some of my users might want to stick to what they know already, for instance W.Bloggar, for various reasons. I know, I can't imagine why they would either, but you know people.... Wink

Another thing is, that most Blog software got themselves a Blogger-based API, so that would make Blogg-X useable with other Blog software besides Joomla!/Your_mambot too!!

Basically, if my users have more than 1 Blog (on my site with Joomla!) they're likely to wanting to have just 1 app for writing their blogs on all of them.. beit their 'old' one or Blogg-X

Jan de Graaff...
Blogg-X is not using the "Blogger" API.  I am indeed using XML-RPC though.  The mambot is written in PHP and all the functions are XML-RPC based, the Java frontend also uses an custom class written using XML-RPC as well.  I have not used any of the other blogging software, but I do understand the convenience of using known software for many different sites.  The idea for Blogg-X came from a friend of mine that was using Blogger and an Apple desktop widget but he was kinda annoyed with the limitations of the Blogger interface for other parts of the site.  I had been using Mambo/Joomla for a few months and suggested that he give it a shot.  Soon after he mentioned how much he liked it but missed the desktop posting interface, so I looked around and couldn't come up with any solutions for him, hence the birth of Blogg-X.

I will have to take a look at the Blogger API and see what's involved.  Hopefully soon I will have more time to work on this project.

Thanks for the comments!!
