I just finished adding that to the code last night. I wanted to play with it a little more to be sure I didn't introduce any new errors. I may upload it today or by the latest tomorrow. I also added "jos_" as the default value but of course it can be changed.
I noticed that right after I posted. I downloaded, tested and found no problems at all on my local environment! Next thing is to try remote connections.
Blogg-X is an excellent utility that can be expanded to several directions. Thanks again, Chris!
Blogg-X is neat but it only worked once last night, and I posted twice with it. Since then, nothing. It's all about problems connecting to the database. Everything's configured right, but I get the same error as others.
helen, please be sure you are using Blogg-X version 0.76 as this added support for changing the table prefix.
I read through some information in the FAQ's on Dreamhosts's site and may have come across something for you to check.
"By default only dreamhost servers can connect to your database... bad! Change this by modifying the user privilage for your database in the control panel; by default is says '%.dreamhost.com', change this to just a percent sign: '%'."
If the database hostname in Joomla! is localhost then this could also be causing the problem because Blogg-X doesn't know what localhost is in your case, but seems like Dreamhost said that you could assign hostnames to your MySQL server.
Have you modified the original "Administrator" account in any way?
Let me know if any of this helps or not. If not I will see what else can be done to help you out.
Chris, I did all of that. I have my DreamHost set up as it should be with the %.myhost.com thing. I'd even got Blogg-X to work just fine ONCE and posted twice with it. Then it just would not connect anymore. Dunno why that is. Yes, it's version .76. Thanks.
BTW, can you do something about that irritating little popup note about Safari? It comes up only when I access your site. Yes, I have popups off.
helen...I have not been able to reproduce this. I'm guessing you are using the Apple version of the program so there shouldn't be any software firewalls running that may be blocking Blogg-X from the internet. Are you just getting the "An error was encountered trying to connect to mysql:hos...." error or another?
Since Blogg-X connected sucessfully and you were able to post then all the settings, like you stated, are correct.
I will also take a look at the site popup, there shouldnt be any but I guess I didn't try it with Safari.
"An error was encountered while trying to establish a database connection to: jdbc:mysql://hostname/dbnameA"
Yes, I should have said. I'm running OS X 10.4.2. Is there a particular port that should be left open for Blogg-X to use?
This is the message with the browser:
"Javascript Safari support is very limited and should be considered experimental. So there is no need to even submit bugreports on this early version."
helen...I have checked everything out with my powerbook running 10.4.2 and cannot reproduce this. Also i do not get any popups while viewing iobinary.com with Safari. But seems odd that you are getting a Javascript warning and having a problem with a program written in Java.
Did you change the Java preferences so that it uses the 5.0 version first?
The normal default port is 3306.
If you would like I can contact you via email and maybe we could start an IM session and see if we can figure it out.
The Java preferences are properly ordered. I'm a bit surprised cuz I shouldn't be getting any popups at all. Everything's set up as it should. Dunno what's wrong. I appreciate your offer and will take you up on it. I'll email you. Thanks.
some hosts require you to create an "access database" list of ip#'s from the machines you are using to run Blogg-X. any machine ip outside of that list will give you a failure to communicate error.
also remember, if you're behind a router, you'll need your real ip, not your LAN ip (so this access ip will change as frequently as your ISP decides to...so you may want to use a wildcard for the last number or so)
Thanks for the info...I'm sure it will help other users.
As far as the problem helen was having she just needed to use a wildcard character for her database name. We got it figured out a few days ago and as far as I know she hasn't any problems since.
The confusion with the remote database connection is the main reason for me looking into using XML-RPC. Once I get that working these problems should be a thing of the past and then Blogg-X can work for everyone.
I have decided to wait on any major feature additions until the conversion is done, I will definately provide bug fixes in the meantime though.
