After a Couple of days, Some Requests
« on: August 11, 2006, 12:48:34 PM »

Besides running my own websites, I also make websites for others, and to be quite honest most of my customers are stupid, they are like cattle if one installs incredimail they all do it "because their friend says its...[yada yada]". Some day I am going to buy a bull whip.

Anyway I have the following requests / notes regarding Blogg-X

Requests Me Personally:
  • A submit button would be nice, instead of a drop down that automatically submits. I have unintentionally submitted 6 times allready, and it is irritating.
  • When the XML-RPC reports back about images in directories, why not include the hight and width of it, so that they show properly in the edit screen.
  • Sometimes it would be nice to enter in the font size I want, instead of larger, smaller and etc. I prefer px or pt as it gives me control and not the browsers. Granted I can do this in the HTML view but, it would be so much easier if I could do it in the editor.

Requests regarding End Users (Not Developers and Not Professional Webmasters):
  • Submit Button - This is somewhat important, as the "auto submit drop down" will create havoc on the website for these kind of users.
  • Images - It should not be a huge problem to get the sizes right on the media folders, it would actually make life SO much easier.
  • Skin - Make the java standard, the default.
  • When pressing "enter" new paragraph
  • When pressing "shift+enter" we get <br>
  • Editor General: Could you make it look and feel and work like a regular word processor (or at least similar to JCE). It would reduce the number of questions.
  • Language Support, English is fine for pro's, not for end users that does not speak it.
  • Tip: Assume that they are idiots, because they are. With this assumption the amount of complaints and questions become a minimum.
Things that WOULD be nice:
  • Table Support
  • The Editor Buttons could use some work (the orange border does not look good) steal/borrow/reuse M$'s icons from office, or use the ones from open office (I think those are under GPL). Or better yet borrow the ones from this forums "Start new topic".

Things that irritate me:
  • When I insert an image, it automatically creates a link to it, why in the heavens are you doing that? Most insert images into their articles to be seen "as-is" not to be linked to. IT would be a good thing if the display size was smaller than the actual size (refer above about image sizes).
  • When loading up a post, the images are broken.

I don't usually whine like this, but I really like Blogg-X and it could use some enhancement and "touch ups". I do not know if this is something you would do, but I would suggest that you took a look at the JCE Editor, when it comes to it's edit functions, and see if you could get some of them into the application.

Cyborg... I appreciate you taking the time to post a very helpful and detailed post.  I have addressed some of the items below so you and other's know that I have really been working on things.

+  A "Submit Button" is now the standard, with the current drop down method completely "dropped"
+  Image size support partially working, locally working still working on remote.
-   Font size specific support, haven't looked at this yet but I will
?  Why do you think the skin should be the java default?   It looks so terrible...
-   "Enter" causing new paragraph, will look into this... Do others have any input on how they would like this to work? Same for "shift+enter" for <br>
-   Editor General... I am very limited by the support in java itself for rendering HTML, so much so that I have thought of moving Blogg-X into a different programming language but that would make the next version way too far off into the future so I will have to think of something.
+  Language support, probably the highest item on my list.  I do have a few languages working partially and just need to finish the basics and then give the rest of the text for translation to the community.
-   Table support, I will look at this as well but is currently near the botton of the to-do list.
+  Editor buttons, I will most likely be changing them to something similar to what I have but with a little more 3d look.
-   Image linking, I can make it an option to create the link or not.
+  Broken image link on loading post, this is fixed because of a new upload method being used.

Unfortunately things have slown down the last few months but I believe they have started to pick back up again.

Thanks...

chris
