FTP images uploading / configuration
« on: February 14, 2006, 06:47:31 AM »

Hi therrrrrre!
Terrible app, thanks for all.
My posts / management of posts are working fine through BloggX,
But either in configuration panel,as uploading new Pict, the Built-in FTP doesn't work.
In anycases, I made that tries:
- downloading/reuploading entire joomla (1.0.7)
- reinstalling Java2
- my Ftp Uname/Pass are both correct.
Any idea of the issue?
Thanks M8

Hi therrrrrre!
Terrible app, thanks for all.

Interesting...   Undecided Here are a few things to check:

1.  With the ftp settings set in the settings panel and the "Test Connection" button selected does it say "FTP Connection Successfull"?  If yes and you still are having problems uploading photos then the path for the "images/stories" directory is probably incorrect.  The test connection is just checking that the FTP address, username and password are working correctly.

2.  When you say it doesn't work with the photos what exactly are you getting?  For example does it show a broken image link with the word "null"?  If this is what you are getting then refer to #1 above.

Thanks...

Ok, let's make it clear:
> The config panel echoes " Uname&Pass cerified + FTP connection Failed "
> So ( as a consequence ) when I try uploading a pict, echo is " FTP connection Problem, bla..."
Any clue?
Thank You

Here is a brief explanation of what happens when the "Test Connection" button is pressed.  Your ftp settings (address, username and password) are sent via XML-RPC to the Blogg-X mambot on the server.  The mambot is then using those settings to open a test ftp connection and returns true if the connection was successfull and false if there was any problems.

Since you are getting the message "FTP Connection failed" then one of those three settings is incorrect.  On some of my sites the ftp is like the following:

ftp.iobinary.com
demo.iobinary.com

The primary domain requires the "ftp." portion while the subdomain does not.  This is the reason it's not hard coded into the software.

The Username and Password certified portion of the "Test Connection" states that the username and password are correct for the Joomla! site itself, just like logging into your site using that username and password.  The FTP username and password are probably completely different than those that you are using for your Joomla! site.

The ftp password is correct in staying unmasked.

Maybe try using the windows command line ftp tools or the apple command line ftp software to get a connection that way.

Thanks...

I didn't mean to imply that you are a "banana" but I often answer questions about how to use the software that is addressed in the README that shows at the end of installation.  Can you send me the ftp address and a username/password that I can try on my end and I will be able to see the errors within my development environment.  If so please email them (admin@iobinary.com) or PM the information to me.

Thanks...

I never did get the FTP addressing to test out, but I did have a connection.  I uploaded a change in one of the news items.  It was present on the site after I updated.

So...I'd say it's working, but it's got an anomalie...  Roll Eyes

domineaux, so you where able to post a text update to a previous post but not with an image correct?  Even if the ftp connection test is unsuccessfull you should still be able to post or update content.  The only time the ftp connection is used is when dealing with the photos.

If anyone is having problems with ftp connections please PM or email me the address and a username and password that I can use to test.  If multiple users are having the same problems it should be easier to track down the problem.

Thanks...

All,
I have tracked down the issue some users are having with the image upload portion of the program.  Basically it boils down to the host of your site not having FTP enabled in the PHP configuration.  Because of this Blogg-X is not able to create a test FTP connection so returns a failure condition.

I will soon release a new version of Blogg-X that will remove the FTP test requirement.

Thanks...

alejandro... You can upload images directly using Blogg-X.  Take a look at the manual and do a search on the forum you should be able to find the information that you need, if not let me know and I will try to assist...

Thanks...

I have also the same problem with uploading images to the server. An error occurred while changing directory verify that the directory exists.... I checked everything. Tested the accounts with the verify button. Everything oke. If i select media directory i can see the existing files in images/stories. (joomla default map) Ch mod is 777. When i upload them manually it works fine (FLASH FXP) Huh The tools is just what i needed, for the moderators without knowledge.

thanks
