Progress Update 3...

PDFPrintE-mail

Progress is still slowly being made with the next version of Blogg-X. I'm sorry it's been slow but I have been on vacation and away from the computer alot. Anyway here is some information on the latest progress.

The ability to remove and edit previous posts has been added. Now you can correct those spelling errors a little easier. I can also confirm that this version is still compatible with Mambo and of course is compatible with Joomla! 1.0.3. I have a few minor annoyances that I am still working out, but I have decided to initiate a feature freeze in order to get the code cleaned up and the last few problems ironed out so everyone can get their hands on it a little sooner.

Hopefully soon I will have the download available.

Thanks...

Progress Update 2...

PDFPrintE-mail

Just a quick update on how things are going. I have Blogg-X working entirely with XML-RPC and am now at the point where I am adding in features requested by users. Here are the features currently completed:

1. Option of frontpage posting

2. Option of posting in plain text

3. Test connection button tests for valid connection and username and password.

4. Setup now only requires publisher/admin username and password and the website url.

To those unfamiliar with XML-RPC let me try to explain it. First its a web services programming scheme designed for client server application development. With Blogg-X there is now a mambot that is loaded via Joomla! that acts as the server portion and does most of the database updates just as Joomla! itself does. The client portion of Blogg-X is the java application that runs from the desktop and communicates with the server.

What does this mean for users? The greatest advantage is all sites running Joomla! can now use Blogg-X. The second is the simplified setup from the previous version of Blogg-X. Now all that is needed is the username and password of an admin or publisher on the site. Third advantage is that the passwords are sent from the client to server via an MD5 hash, meaning the password is not sent in clear text. This just adds a bit of security. Also I have designed the server to check the sent password from the client against the password stored in the Joomla! database and only allow updates if they match. This should make things a little more secure as well.

I will post another update when I have progressed a little further. I am also going to be sending out my current test version to a couple private beta testers to get some initial feedback.

Thanks...

Conversion almost complete...

PDFPrintE-mail

The website conversion to Joomla! has almost been completed. I had some problems converting the forum but hopefully I have gotten it all straightened out. If you are a member and are having problems logging in please let me know. You may also try the "forgotten password" link to see if that fixes your problem.

I have also opened back up the guest comment access but with the addition of the security image. Hopefully this will stop the automatic spamming stuff.

If you find anything else that doesn't work in the next few days please let me know.

Thanks...

The site will be down for a short while in the next few days...

PDFPrintE-mail

I am converting the site over from Mambo to Joomla! in the next few days so the site my be unavailable at times. I am going to do my best to preserve the forum data and all member data but am not making any promises.

All the downloads will still be available at the Joomla! developer site.

Thanks...

Progress Update...

PDFPrintE-mail

This post is coming to you via Blogg-X using XML-RPC. I am at the point where I am piecing the program back together using the XML-RPC code instead of the JDBC code. I still need to create the functions to correct ordering of items added to the frontpage. Also alot of code cleanup needs to take place as well. But I can say that posting is indeed much faster than the previous versions of Blogg-X.

Thanks...

Unfortunately I've turned off guest comment access...

PDFPrintE-mail

I have had to unfortunately turn off the guest access for posting comments. I have been getting alot of spam stuff posted recently and until I have time to figure out a better solution this will have to work.

Sorry...

Development update...

PDFPrintE-mail

The work with XML-RPC is coming along very well. I have successfully been able to post content onto the site from the java client. The biggest problem so far was getting arrays passed between the client and server. So far I have PHP functions created for inserting content into the database, posting content on the frontpage, listing the categories, and listing the administrators and publishers. These functions aren't entirely complete but have given me a great start.

I have been trying to test these server functions while I still have access to the internet. I can work on the GUI when I am without it.

Thanks...

PDFPrintE-mail

Today I uploaded all the files and the changelog into the Joomla! Developer site. Thanks Markku for the suggestion. I will, of course, continue to update both iobinary.com and the project page on developer.joomla.org with the latest news and updates.
